Bioblitz Workshop at Archerfield Wetlands with Wildlife Preservation Society of Queensland

How much do we really know about the wildlife living around us?

Join Wildlife Preservation Society of Queensland Project Manager Matt Cecil for an engaging talk and practical workshop exploring how everyday nature observations can help close important gaps in biodiversity knowledge.

Queensland is home to more than 1,000 threatened species, yet for many species, we still know very little about where they occur, how their populations are changing, or what support they need to survive.

Matt will introduce the Discover & Protect project, share recent results from the Archerfield Wetlands BioBlitz, and explain how community-collected data can contribute to national biodiversity databases used by researchers, land managers and decision-makers. Participants will also learn how to use iNaturalist, a free online platform and app that allows people to record and share wildlife sightings. Whether you are new to citizen science or already enjoy spotting birds, insects, plants, fungi, frogs, mammals or reptiles, this workshop will help you take the next step.

No scientific background is needed. Just bring your curiosity, your phone and your interest in helping protect Brisbane’s biodiversity.
