Bushcare

What is Bushcare?

Bushcare is all about community volunteers working to rehabilitate and conserve bushland in the local area.

What do Bushcare volunteers do?

Bushcare groups strategically remove weeds to allow the re-establishment of native plant communities.

Whilst weed removal and control is the major objective of Bushcare, volunteers may also undertake other activities such as planting and mulching.

Why is Bushcare so important?

Invasive plant species are a major concern for Australia’s native bushland. By clearing weeds we improve the natural regeneration potential of native plants by providing them with the space and opportunity to thrive.

Do I need to know about plants to join a Bushcare group?

No, you don’t need any previous experience or plant knowledge to join a Bushcare group. Each group has an experienced Bushcare leader who will help you to identify weeds. Generally, each session will focus on one or two weed species. You will quickly become very good at spotting weeds!
