Ocean Crusaders Waterway Clean-up 2025

OCCA once again joined forces with Ocean Crusaders to clean up the Oxley Creek. On Saturday 12th April, Ocean Crusaders and four volunteers did a hard core clean, removing 1,420kg of rubbish, a record for the Oxley Creek. Items removed included 10 tyres, plastic barrels, plant pots, large polystyrene pieces, pallets and even a timber cabinet.

On Sunday 13th April, 25 volunteers came out to Paddle Against Plastic. The team removed over 200kg of litter from the waterway and along the Oxley Creek Common walking track in just 3 hours. This haul mostly consisted of small pieces of soft plastic, but also included bottles, tyres, polystyrene pieces and even part of a couch.

After all the rubbish was weighed, the final tally was 1,682 kg. Thank you to all the volunteers for a great weekend on the water and for their dedication to caring for our environment.

Thank you also to Brisbane City Council for funding this series of events through the Envirogrant program and Brisbane Sustainability Agency and RACQ for putting on a BBQ lunch for our volunteers.
