Throughout October and November 2012, 85 Telstra staff, facilitated by Landcare Australia stepped out of the office and helped restore habitats around our catchment. The enthusiastic volunteer teams participated in ecological restoration through a program of hands-on activities including tree planting, weeding, water testing, dip netting and an introduction to plant identification.
- A tributary of Oxley Creek flowing through the grounds of Watson Road State School in Acacia Ridge where staff and students are undertaking a riparian restoration project with the support of OCCA, BMI Resource Recovery and the Caring for Our Country Grants Program.
- Granard Wetlands on Stable Swamp Creek in Rocklea is the Brisbane City Council land where restoration is managed by OCCA. The volunteers were amply fuelled by a generous BBQ lunch provided by Bunnings Rocklea, neighbours to this project site.
- The Oxley Creek Common in Rocklea is an amazing mix of grasslands and riparian vegetation on the banks of Oxley Creek. It is currently being cared for by the State Government with the support of a number of stakeholders including OCCA’s CreekCare team of volunteers.
- Graceville Park Apartments in Sherwood is a residential complex occupying both sides of a tributary of Oxley Creek. The residents of this area have been working with our Biodiversity Services Unit since 2006 and were severely impacted by the 2011 floods.
