CreekWatch members Sims Metal and Practical Engineering participated in Business Clean Up Australia Day along with community members, the Brisbane City Council Waste team and and Councillor Steve Griffiths.
Our CreekWatch volunteers flexed their corporate social responsibility muscles by removing debris from a tributary of Stable Swamp Creek in Rocklea. While the city works hard to keep Brisbane clean, the environment can’t exactly log a workplace incident when rubbish, abandoned vehicles or rogue fires occur between council visits. That’s where local businesses come in – especially in industrial precincts. By integrating environmental stewardship in their operations and workplace culture, local businesses strengthen council and community efforts in their area. A much needed trifecta supporting healthier waterways.
Thank you to Councillor Steve Griffiths for coming along to support the event and providing morning tea and to all our CreekWatch Partners for supporting the work of OCCA to clean up our catchment.
If you spot dumped rubbish/debris or an abandoned vehicle within Brisbane, please log the observation with council here: https://www.brisbane.qld.gov.au/online-services/report-an-issue
