Our Archerfield Wetlands grant is now complete. The project, funded by a Community Sustainability Action Grant from the Queensland State Government, included the planting of 3100 tubestock at Archerfield Wetlands plus the construction and installation of 30 nest boxes. The nest boxes were built by Anthony Durrington from the Oxley Mens Shed and installed by Will and Anya from OCCA’s Biodiversity Services team.
A key component of this project was community engagement, with volunteers assisting with the planting of 300 seedlings as part of a tree planting day in 2023 and the assembly and painting of the nest boxes during events held in 2024.
All of the nest boxes have now been installed at Archerfield Wetlands and a map of their locations can be found here. Boxes were built to suit the habitat requirements of a range of fauna species including Microbats, Owlet-Nightjars, Pale-headed Rosellas, King Parrots, Possums, Tree Martins, Phascogales, Powerful Owls, Kingfishers and Greater Gilders.
